Writing
Coach
So you
want to write seriously. You have an idea for a book or you want to
put your thoughts down on paper. During my training to compete in
the World Masters Rowing Championships, I confirmed the value of a
coach. There is no way that I could complete the rigorous training
program without the discipline and inspiration from my coach. He kept
me focused. When I decided to write a book, I used the discipline
of that training to set up a program for myself. I had two months
to write a manuscript of 50 thousand words. I decided that if I wrote
a thousand words a day, I could meet this deadline and I did. Not
all of us have the ability to self-coach to be that disciplined, as
life often gets in the way. As a writing coach, I can provide a writing
program, coach and guide you through the creative process so that
you can be heard. If you are serious about your writing, begin by
reading Sue's Writing Creed below to ensure that you align with my
philosophy and approach to creative writing.
-
I believe that great writing is based on the absolute truth.
-
I believe that every person has a book within him or her.
-
I believe we already have all the knowledge needed to reveal what
we already know as the truth.
-
I believe that to write a book you must be a saint: A saint is someone
who faces his or her fear.
-
I believe that to write a book one have an intention that aligns
with purpose.
-
I believe that writing is a discipline: You must have goals and
write everyday.
-
I believe to write an interesting book you must have a point of
view.
-
I believe that one should write the first draft without judgement
of their own writing or how people might interpret it.
-
I believe the first draft should include every thought you ever
had related to your book/story.
-
I believe that walking enhances creativity.
-
I believe there is a scientific creative process and we should stay
out of the way and allow it to be.
-
I believe you should read your writing out loud so that you know
how it sounds. (The wise words of Bruce Pierre.)
-
I believe a story is the greatest teacher of all.
-
I believe that writing a book is a journey that transforms the writer
to become more of who they are.
The
Writing Coach
As a writing coach my role will be to guide you through the writing
process. We will address each point in the Writer's Creed as it relates
to your writing. We will work through defining your intentions and
set-writing goals based on your earnest desires. I will coach and
probe you to unveil the place from where you can write the truth (fiction
or non-fiction). I am your mirror and I will tell you what you say/write
that you can hear it out loud, from a different perspective. I will
not judge you and promise to keep an open mind throughout the process
of you achieving your personal goals. Once you begin to send the written
materials/manuscript I will provide coaching and recommendations on
story line, character development, dialogue, setting, theme and action.
Along with various writing tips from time to time, conventional wisdom
and unlimited email questions will be addressed within a reasonable
period of time. Various levels of more detailed editing will provide
the next level of refinement for the manuscript, based on your individual
writing process and new developments for publication.
Testimonial
Over the past three months, we have had the pleasure of working with
Sue Kenney, not simply as our editor but as our advisor as well. What
started out as a summary of a travel we did has been transformed into
a story that speaks from the heart? Sue's insightful comments and
suggestions have helped us to cut to the essence of our journey, revealing
the emotional and spiritual journey that our book is truly about.
She is very patient with us, gently guiding us to seek deeper. She
doesn't judge our work nor does presume to put words in our mouths.
She simply gives us ideas and new perspectives to consider as we write.
She's very encouraging and supportive. We have been most pleased in
our relationship with Sue and look forward to continuing it further.
We would highly recommend her to anyone seeking to bring forth into
the world what is truly in his or her hearts. With warm regards,
Mony Dojeiji and Alberto Agraso Cadiz, Spain.
